Peter Tork Biography
Peter Halsten Thorkelson, known professionally as Peter Tork, was an American musician and actor. Born on February 13, 1942, in Washington, D.C., Tork grew up in Connecticut and became part of the Greenwich Village folk scene in New York City. He formed a friendship with musician Stephen Stills and later moved to Los Angeles with him. Tork auditioned for a new musical TV sitcom, The Monkees, and became the keyboardist and bass guitarist of the band. The show aired from 1966 to 1968 and made Tork and his co-stars teen idols. Tork released a solo album, Stranger Things Have Happened (1994), and toured with James Lee Stanley and his band, Shoe Suede Blues.
