Philip K. Howard

Philip K. Howard (born October 24, 1948) is an American lawyer and writer known for his work on the effects of modern law and bureaucracy on human behavior and society. He is the author of several influential books, including 'The Death of Common Sense' (1995), 'The Collapse of the Common Good' (2002), 'Life Without Lawyers' (2009), 'The Rule of Nobody' (2014), and 'Try Common Sense' (2019). In his writings, Howard criticizes over-regulation and excessive litigation, advocating for simpler, goal-oriented regulation and reliable boundaries on litigation. Additionally, he founded and leads Common Good, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that aims to simplify government. The organization's Board of Directors has included prominent figures such as Bill Bradley, Tom Kean, George McGovern, and Alan Simpson.
