Phyllis Stewart Schlafly (August 15, 1924 – September 5, 2016) was an American attorney, conservative activist, and author. She gained prominence as an anti-feminist spokesperson for the national conservative movement. Schlafly held paleoconservative views and was known for opposing feminism, gay rights, and abortion. She campaigned against the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and founded the conservative political interest group, the Eagle Forum. Schlafly authored several books, including the widely distributed A Choice Not an Echo (1964), critiquing Republican leader Nelson Rockefeller. Despite her passing in 2016, Schlafly's influence and involvement in conservative causes continue to be recognized.
