Raymond H. LaHood is an American politician who served as the 16th United States Secretary of Transportation from 2009 to 2013 under President Barack Obama. Prior to that, he had a career in politics, serving in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1982 to 1983 and the United States House of Representatives from 1995 to 2009. In 2015, LaHood coauthored a book called 'Seeking Bipartisanship: My Life in Politics' with Frank H. Mackaman. LaHood's career faced controversy in 2017 when he admitted to accepting a $50,000 payment from a foreign national for personal home repairs without reporting it on his ethics form. In 2019, he reached a Non-Prosecution Agreement and paid a fine to the U.S. government.
