Richard Clifford Biography
Richard Clifford (died 1421) was an English bishop who served as Bishop of London, Bishop of Worcester, Bishop-elect of Bath and Wells, and Lord Privy Seal. He was also the Keeper of the Great Wardrobe from 1390 to 1398. Clifford's brother, Robert Clifford, was a politician and a Member of Parliament. Clifford was appointed Lord Privy Seal in 1397 and held the position until 1401. He was elected to the see of Bath and Wells in 1400 but was instead translated to Worcester. In 1407, Clifford was translated to the see of London. He had plans to establish a college at the University of Oxford called London College, but he passed away before realizing this dream.
