Richard Jewell
Richard Jewell (born Richard White; December 17, 1962 – August 29, 2007) was an American security guard and law enforcement officer. He gained notoriety during the Centennial Olympic Park bombing at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Jewell discovered a backpack containing three pipe bombs and promptly alerted the police, helping evacuate the area before the bomb exploded. Despite being initially hailed as a hero, he became a suspect due to psychological profiling. Jewell underwent intense public scrutiny for 88 days and his life was greatly affected. However, he was eventually cleared as a suspect. Jewell's case symbolized the negative impact of law enforcement and media excesses. He passed away in 2007.
