Richard Bowman Myers is a retired four-star general in the United States Air Force and former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Born on March 1, 1942, Myers had a distinguished military career, serving in various leadership positions in the Air Force and Joint assignments. On October 1, 2001, he assumed the role of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, becoming the highest-ranking uniformed officer in the United States military. During his tenure, Myers provided crucial military advice and guidance to the President, the Secretary of Defense, and the National Security Council, particularly during the early stages of the War on Terror and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. After retiring on September 30, 2005, he was succeeded by General Peter Pace. Myers later served as the 14th president of Kansas State University from 2016 to 2022.
