Richard Riddell Biography
Richard Riddell is an American lighting designer and educator. He graduated with honors from Knox College with a B.A. in 1972 and obtained his doctorate from Stanford University in 1978. Throughout his career, Riddell has held teaching positions at renowned institutions such as the University of California, San Diego, Harvard University, and Duke University, where he served as vice president, university secretary, and assistant to the president. In addition to his academic work, Riddell has worked on various Broadway shows, including A Walk in the Woods and Big River, primarily focusing on lighting design but also occasionally contributing to scenic design. He has contributed articles to publications such as American Theater, The New York Times, and The Chronicle of Higher Education.
