Ritchie John Torres (born March 12, 1988) is an American politician and member of the Democratic Party. He currently serves as the U.S. Representative for New York's 15th congressional district, which covers most of the South Bronx. Torres is known for representing the poorest congressional district in New York State. Prior to his current role, he served as the New York City Council member for the 15th district from 2013 to 2020. As a council member, he chaired the Committee on Public Housing and was a deputy majority leader. Torres gained attention for his focus on issues such as taxi medallion predatory loans and the city's Third Party Transfer Program. He was also a delegate for the Bernie Sanders campaign in 2016.
