Rob Marshall, born Robert Doyle Marshall Jr. on October 17, 1960, is an American film and theater director, producer, and choreographer. He gained recognition for directing the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Chicago, which earned him the Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing – Feature Film. Marshall has also received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Director, the Golden Globe Award for Best Director, and the BAFTA Award for Best Direction. Born in Madison, Wisconsin, he comes from a family of artists, with his sister Kathleen also pursuing a career in choreography and directing. Marshall began his career in the English department at the University of Pittsburgh in 1984.
