Robert William Kastenmeier (January 24, 1924 – March 20, 2015) was an American Democratic politician who served as a United States Representative for central Wisconsin from 1959 to 1991. Born in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, he attended public school and then enlisted in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, Kastenmeier continued his education at Carleton College and the University of Wisconsin Law School. During his time in Congress, he was a key sponsor of the Copyright Act of 1976 and the Electronic Communications Privacy Act of 1986. Kastenmeier's career spanned over three decades, making significant contributions to legislation surrounding intellectual property and privacy rights.
