Robert Sampson Biography
Robert Sampson (March 4, 1925 – December 3, 2006) was a lawyer and vice president at United Airlines. Diagnosed with muscular dystrophy at age 5, he used a wheelchair for most of his life. Sampson advocated for disabled persons, serving on the President's Commission on Employment of the Handicapped under five American presidents. His efforts contributed to architectural improvements for accessibility, including wheelchair ramps. He partnered with Jerry Lewis to raise funds for muscular dystrophy treatment. In honor of his contributions, a Boeing 747-400 aircraft, tail number N116UA, was named after him.
