Robert Francis Vaughn (November 22, 1932 – November 11, 2016) was an American stage, film, and television actor, author, political activist, and advertising spokesperson. Born in New York City, Vaughn had a career spanning nearly six decades. He appeared as a lead or character actor in numerous films, including his notable roles as the disabled war veteran Chester A. Gwynn in The Young Philadelphians, earning him an Academy Award nomination, and as the gunman Lee in The Magnificent Seven. Vaughn also had a prominent presence on television, starring in over 200 shows and winning an Emmy for his portrayal of the White House Chief of Staff in the miniseries Washington: Behind Closed Doors. Vaughn chronicled his life in his 2008 autobiography, A Fortunate Life.
