    Roberto Santos Biography
    Roberto Santos Pinhanez (1928–1987) was a Brazilian film director known for his work in the film industry. He was born in a working-class suburb of Sao Paulo in 1928. Santos began his cinema activities in 1952 at the Vera Cruz Studio, the first major film studio in Brazil. In 1956, he directed his first movie, 'O Grande Momento' (The Great Moment), which was the first neo-realistic film made in Brazil. One of Santos' notable works was the 1965 adaptation of Guimaraes Rosa's short novel, 'A Hora e Vez de Augusto Matraga' (Matraga), which was successfully shown at the 1966 Cannes Film Festival. Despite facing censorship issues in the late 1960s and 1970s, Santos directed six more movies, including two experimental films.
