Rochelle Paula Walensky (née Bersoff; born April 5, 1969) is an American physician-scientist and former director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) from 2021 to 2023. She also served as the administrator of the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry during her tenure at the CDC. Prior to her role at the CDC, Walensky was the chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School. With expertise in HIV/AIDS, she has made significant contributions in the field. Walensky was born in Peabody, Massachusetts and raised in Potomac, Maryland. She graduated from Winston Churchill High School in 1987.
