Rod Campbell Biography
Rod Campbell (born 4 May 1945) is a Scottish author and illustrator known for his popular children's books. He was born in Scotland and raised in Zimbabwe before returning to Britain to pursue a doctorate in organic chemistry. In 1980, Campbell ventured into children's publishing, where he gained recognition for his innovative books with interactive features and repetitive phrases. In 1987, he co-founded Campbell Blackie Books, which later became Campbell Books in 1989. Macmillan Publishers acquired Campbell Books in 1995. Campbell's most famous work is 'Dear Zoo', a lift-the-flap board book published in 1982. He drew inspiration from early lift-the-flap books and created a story centered around explorers sending animals in crates to zoos.
