Ron Stein Biography
Ron Stein (September 27, 1937 – February 16, 2010) was an American athlete known for his participation in wheelchair sports. Born in East St. Louis, Stein attended O'Fallon Township High School, where he excelled in basketball, baseball, and track and field. After graduating in 1955, he planned to join the Chicago White Sox and attend Northwestern University. However, Stein contracted polio while training with the White Sox, which led to him needing a wheelchair. He underwent rehabilitation at the University of Illinois and became involved in competitive wheelchair sports, including basketball, athletics, and football. Stein represented the United States in the inaugural Summer Paralympic Games held in Rome in 1960.
