    Roy Hudd, OBE (16 May 1936 – 15 March 2020) was an English comedian, actor, presenter, radio host, author, and authority on the history of music hall entertainment. Born in Croydon on 16 May 1936, Hudd's father left the family after World War II, and his mother tragically took her own life when he was nine. Raised by his grandmother, Hudd attended Tavistock Secondary Modern School and Croydon Secondary Technical School. After completing national service in the Royal Air Force, he studied commercial art before embarking on a career as a comedian. Hudd made his professional debut on 27 October 1957 at the Streatham Hill Theatre. Throughout his career, he became well-known for his contributions to comedy and his extensive knowledge of music hall entertainment history.
