Roy Roberts Biography
Roy Roberts (born Roy Barnes Jones; March 19, 1906 – May 28, 1975) was an American character actor known for his extensive career on stage and screen. Born in Tampa, Florida, Roberts started his acting journey with a stock company in his hometown. He then spent five years touring with various stock theater companies. Roberts made his Broadway debut in May 1931 and later made his film debut in the 1936 comedy short Gold Bricks. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous films in supporting roles and returned to Broadway for productions like Twentieth Century, My Sister Eileen, and Carnival in Flanders. Roberts also made frequent guest appearances on television series, including a four-year role as the ship's captain in Gale Storm's My Little Margie precursor to The Love Boat.
