Russell McConnell
Russell Henry McConnell (January 7, 1918 – September 7, 1942) was a Canadian athlete and soldier. He was an accomplished ice hockey and Canadian football player, known for his record-setting performances. McConnell played hockey for McGill University and was a member of four championship teams, serving as captain for one of them. He also excelled in football, playing two seasons at the senior level. After his graduation, McConnell joined the Royal Canadian Navy and tragically lost his life during patrols in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Born in Montreal, Quebec, McConnell's sporting achievements and dedication to his country continue to be celebrated today.
