Ruth Esther Pointer (born March 19, 1946) is an American singer and the eldest and last surviving original member of the family vocal group, the Pointer Sisters. She joined her sisters in 1972, and the group gained fame with songs like 'Yes We Can Can' (1973) and 'Fairytale' (1974). After Bonnie's departure in 1977, the group continued as a trio, achieving their biggest success with covers of rock, pop, and new wave tunes, including 'Fire' (1978), 'He's So Shy' (1980), and 'Slow Hand' (1981). The release of the album 'Break Out' in 1983 brought the group their greatest success, with hits like 'Automatic' and 'Neutron Dance'.
