Ryan White
Ryan Wayne White (December 6, 1971 – April 8, 1990) was an American teenager from Kokomo, Indiana, who gained national prominence as a poster child for HIV/AIDS in the United States. Diagnosed with AIDS in December 1984 after being infected with HIV from a contaminated blood treatment, White faced discrimination when his school barred him from attending classes. Despite medical experts assuring that AIDS does not spread through casual contact, he faced opposition from parents and teachers. The resulting administrative appeal process and media coverage made White a well-known figure and advocate for AIDS research and public education. Ryan White's story highlighted the importance of understanding and compassion towards those affected by HIV/AIDS.
