Sam Spiegel
Samuel P. Spiegel (November 11, 1901 - December 31, 1985) was an American independent film producer known for financially supporting critically acclaimed movies. Born in the Galician area of Austria-Hungary, Spiegel produced films that won the Academy Award for Best Picture three times, a first for a sole independent producer. He received his education at the University of Vienna and briefly worked in Hollywood in 1927. Spiegel then moved to Berlin, where he produced German and French adaptations of Universal films. In 1933, he fled Germany due to the rise of the Nazi party. Spiegel made significant contributions to the film industry during the 20th century.
