Scott Ritter (born July 15, 1961) is an American author, international relations analyst, and former United States Marine Corps intelligence officer. He is best known for his role as a United Nations Special Commission (UNSCOM) weapons inspector, overseeing the disarmament of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq from 1991 to 1998. Ritter resigned from UNSCOM in protest and later became a vocal critic of the Iraq War and US foreign policy in the Middle East. He has authored several books and is a regular contributor to Russian state media outlets RT and Sputnik. Ritter's career has been marred by controversy, including his conviction for sex crimes involving a minor in 2011.
