Sean Bean (born Shaun Mark Bean on 17 April 1959) is an English actor. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his professional debut in a theatre production of Romeo and Juliet in 1983. Bean gained mainstream success for his portrayal of Richard Sharpe in the ITV series Sharpe, which ran from 1993 to 1997. He has appeared in numerous films including Patriot Games (1992), GoldenEye (1995), The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003), Troy (2004), and The Martian (2015). Bean has also had notable television roles in Accused, Broken, Game of Thrones, and Henry VIII. Additionally, he has lent his voice to various video games.
