Sean Bergin (29 June 1948 – 1 September 2012) was a South African avant-garde jazz saxophonist and flautist. Born in Durban, Bergin was a talented saxophonist, flautist, composer, educator, and bandleader. He drew inspiration from the rich South African jazz scene and defied apartheid by performing illegally with black musicians. Bergin eventually relocated to Amsterdam in 1976, where he found success with various musical projects, including M.O.B., Trio San Francisco, and Bug Band. He collaborated with renowned musicians such as Mal Waldron, Louis Moholo, and Miriam Makeba. Bergin's exceptional talent and contributions to jazz were recognized when he received the VPRO/Boy Edgar Award in 2000. He left behind a legacy of influential music that continues to inspire jazz enthusiasts worldwide.
