Sean Dougherty

Sean Dougherty is a Canadian astrophysicist who has made significant contributions to the field of radio astronomy. He obtained a degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Nottingham in 1983, and went on to earn his Ph.D. in astrophysics from the University of Calgary in 1993. With over 20 years of experience, Dougherty has managed and represented Canadian contributions to various international radio astronomical facilities, as well as led research and development projects. Notably, he oversaw the construction and delivery of the WIDAR correlator to the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (JVLA), and led the design of the correlator for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) Phase 1 mid-frequency telescope (SKA1-Mid). Since February 2018, Dougherty has served as the Director of ALMA (Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array), a position he was appointed to in July 2017.
