Sean Michael Spicer is a former American political aide who served as the 30th White House Press Secretary and as White House Communications Director under President Donald Trump in 2017. Born on September 23, 1971, Spicer was also the communications director of the Republican National Committee from 2011 to 2017, and its chief strategist from 2015 to 2017. Known for his controversial and false public statements, Spicer developed a contentious relationship with the White House press corps. One of his notable controversies occurred on January 21, 2017, when he falsely claimed that crowds at Trump's inauguration were the largest ever at such an event. Spicer's tenure as press secretary was marked by the use of what senior advisor Kellyanne Conway called 'alternative facts.'
