Shawn Ryan is an American screenwriter and television producer known for creating and producing several successful television series. Born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, Ryan developed an interest in 1970s sitcoms during his childhood. After graduating from Middlebury College, he won the Norman Lear Playwriting award, which led to meetings with top television producers at Columbia Pictures Television. He began his television career as a staff writer on the show Nash Bridges and went on to work as a writer/producer on Angel. Ryan gained recognition as the creator and head writer of the critically acclaimed series The Shield. He also created and produced series such as The Unit, Lie to Me, Timeless, S.W.A.T., and The Night Agent.
