Shini Somara

Shini Somara, born Shini Somarathne, is a British mechanical engineer, media broadcaster, producer, and author. She is best known for her work as a presenter on various television shows, including TechKnow on Al Jazeera America and The Health Show on the BBC. Somara has also hosted educational series on physics and engineering for PBS Digital Studios' Crash Course YouTube channel. With an extensive television career, she has appeared on BBC America, Sky Atlantic, BBC1, BBC2, and PBS. Born and raised in London, Somara is the daughter of a Sri Lanka-born mechanical engineer and his Malaysian wife. She achieved a Bachelors of Engineering and later earned an engineering doctorate (EngD) from Brunel University London in 2003.
