Spencer Ackerman
Spencer Ackerman (born June 1, 1980) is an American journalist and writer known for his work in national security. He started his career at The New Republic in 2002 and has since written for Wired, The Guardian, and The Daily Beast. Ackerman received a 2012 National Magazine Award for his reporting on biased FBI training materials and shared in a 2014 Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the 2013 global surveillance disclosures. His book, 'Reign of Terror: How the 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump,' was recognized as a best nonfiction book of 2021 by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Foreign Policy. Born into a Jewish family and raised in a politically active household, Ackerman attended the Bronx High School of Science and graduated from Rutgers University in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy.
