Stephen Levinson
Stephen Levinson is a British social scientist known for his extensive research on the relations between culture, language, and cognition. He was born on 6 December 1947 and has made significant contributions to the field of linguistic anthropology. Levinson received his BA in Archaeology and Social Anthropology from King's College, Cambridge, and later obtained his PhD in Linguistic Anthropology from the University of California, Berkeley. Throughout his career, he has held various academic positions at institutions such as the University of Cambridge, Stanford University, and the Australian National University. Currently, Levinson serves as a Professor of Comparative Linguistics at Radboud University. He retired as the scientific director of the Language and Cognition department at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in December 2017.
