Stephen J. Swift (born September 7, 1943) is a former judge of the United States Tax Court. He was appointed by President Ronald Reagan on August 16, 1983, for a term ending August 15, 1998. After serving as a Senior Judge on recall, he was reappointed by President Bill Clinton on December 1, 2000, for a term ending November 30, 2015. Swift graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in 1967 and received his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School in 1970. Prior to his judicial career, he worked as an Attorney for the United States Department of Justice Tax Division and as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in San Francisco, California.
