Sylvia Weinstock

Sylvia Weinstock (January 28, 1930 – November 22, 2021) was an American baker and cake decorator. She gained recognition for her skill in creating delicious, multi-tiered wedding cakes adorned with botanically accurate sugar flowers. Additionally, Weinstock showcased her talent by designing intricate trompe-l'oeil cakes resembling various objects such as cars, wine crates, and Fabergé eggs. Born on January 28, 1930, in the Bronx, New York, Weinstock grew up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology from Hunter College in 1951 and later a master's degree in education from Queens College in 1973, she embarked on a teaching career. However, at the age of 50, Weinstock turned her passion for baking into a thriving business, establishing her own cake baking and decoration company.
