Ted Koppel

Ted Koppel, born Edward James Martin Koppel on February 8, 1940, is a British-born American broadcast journalist. He is best known as the anchor for Nightline, a program he hosted from its inception in 1980 until 2005. Prior to Nightline, Koppel spent 20 years as a broadcast journalist and news anchor for ABC. During his time as the host of Nightline, Koppel was widely regarded as one of the foremost serious-minded interviewers on American television, with the show amassing a nightly audience of approximately 7.5 million viewers. Koppel's illustrious career also includes stints as managing editor for the Discovery Channel, news analyst for NPR and BBC World News America, and contributor to Rock Center with Brian Williams. He currently serves as a special contributor to CBS News Sunday Morning. Throughout his career, Koppel has been the recipient of numerous awards, including nine Overseas Press Club awards and 25 Emmy Awards. Born to German Jewish parents, Koppel was an only child, born in Nelson, England.
