Tim Scott

Timothy Eugene Scott is an American businessman and politician. Born on September 19, 1965, he currently serves as the junior United States senator from South Carolina. Prior to his political career, Scott worked in financial services and served on the Charleston County Council from 1995 to 2009. He then went on to represent South Carolina in the state's General Assembly from 2009 to 2011, and later served as a representative for SC's 1st congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2011 to 2013. In 2013, Scott was appointed to the U.S. Senate by then-governor Nikki Haley, becoming the first African-American senator to be elected from the Southern United States.
