Timothy Nolen

Timothy Nolen (born July 9, 1941) is an American actor and baritone known for his extensive career in operas, musicals, concerts, plays, and television. He gained recognition for his portrayal of the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, taking over from Michael Crawford in October 1988. Nolen achieved further acclaim for his performance as the title role in the first operatic presentation of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street at the Houston Grand Opera in 1984. He also appeared as Judge Turpin in a concert version of Sweeney Todd broadcast on PBS's Great Performances in 2001. Nolen began his career in the 1960s, performing small supporting roles with various opera companies in the United States.
