Tom Dowd
Tom Dowd (October 20, 1925 – October 27, 2002) was an American recording engineer and producer for Atlantic Records. He is best known for innovating the multitrack recording method. Dowd worked on a wide range of recordings in various genres including blues, jazz, pop, rock, and soul. Born in Manhattan, New York City, Dowd had a musical upbringing, playing several instruments and coming from a family with a musical background. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School and City College of New York, Dowd worked at the physics laboratory of Columbia University before being drafted into the military. He also worked on the Manhattan Project. Dowd's contributions to the field of recording continue to be influential and noteworthy.
