Tom Tancredo (born December 20, 1945) is an American politician and former congressman from Colorado. He represented the state's sixth congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2009 as a Republican. Tancredo also ran for President of the United States during the 2008 election and was the Constitution Party's nominee for Governor of Colorado in 2010. Before his career in politics, Tancredo served two terms in the Colorado House of Representatives. He then worked in the United States Department of Education during the Reagan and George H. W. Bush administrations. Tancredo focused his presidential campaign on issues such as illegal immigration and terrorism. He dropped out of the race in 2007 to support Mitt Romney.
