Tommy Roe is a retired American rock and pop singer-songwriter, born on May 9, 1942. He is best known for his hits 'Sheila' (1962) and 'Dizzy' (1969). Roe is widely recognized as one of the archetypal bubblegum artists of the late 1960s but also produced notable rock songs early in his career. He was born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, and attended Brown High School. After graduating, he worked at General Electric soldering wires. Roe's first recorded song, 'Sheila,' was written for a girl he had a crush on in high school named Freda. It was released on Jud Phillips's Judd label in 1960.
