Tony Edwards
Tony Edwards is an Australian comic book artist and illustrator, born in Strathfield in 1944. Initially trained as an architect, he gained recognition for his creation, Captain Goodvibes, a comic published in Tracks from May 1971 to July 1981. Inspired by Gilbert Shelton's Wonder Wart-Hog, Captain Goodvibes became a cult figure within the Australian surfing community. Edwards went on to publish several Goodvibes comic books and co-wrote the short film Hot to Trot. He also published his first children's story, Ralph the Rhino, in 1982 and provided illustrations for Surfing, the Dictionary by Phil Jarratt in 1985. Edwards received a Walkley Award for 'Best Art' in 1998.
