Tony Evangelista
Tony Evangelista is a Canadian FIFA referee and an important builder to Canadian soccer. Born in Sora, Italy on October 2, 1945, Evangelista migrated to Canada with his family at the age of 13. He began his refereeing career at the age of 23 and quickly became one of Canada's top referees. Evangelista was selected to the FIFA Panel of Referees for the 1984 Olympic Games in the U.S. and officiated the game between West Germany and Morocco. He also officiated notable games such as Switzerland vs Italy in 1984, the final of the first FIFA Five a Side Indoor World Tournament in the Netherlands in 1989, and the 1985 FIFA World Youth (Under 19) Championship in the USSR. Evangelista's contributions to the sport extend to handling the World Cup qualifying match between Honduras and El Salvador in Tegucigalpa on November 30, 1980.
