Tony Richardson (5 June 1928 – 14 November 1991) was an English theatre and film director and producer. Born in Shipley, West Riding of Yorkshire, Richardson attended Wadham College, University of Oxford where he was the President of the Oxford University Dramatic Society and the Experimental Theatre Club. In 1964, he won the Academy Award for Best Director for the film Tom Jones. Richardson's career spanned five decades and he directed notable works such as The Entertainer (1960), A Taste of Honey (1961), and The Hotel New Hampshire (1984). He had a significant impact on British theatre and film and is remembered as a talented and influential director.
