Tyrone Mitchell
Tyrone Mitchell (October 17, 1955 – February 24, 1984) was an American spree killer. On February 24, 1984, Mitchell fatally shot two students and wounded twelve others at 49th Street Elementary School in Los Angeles before committing suicide by shooting himself with a double-barreled shotgun. Born in Montgomery County, Alabama, Mitchell grew up in South Central Los Angeles in a residence that was later replaced by the school where the shooting occurred. Mitchell's parents and siblings were members of the Peoples Temple led by Jim Jones and perished in the 1978 mass murder-suicide at Jonestown. Mitchell's tragic actions left a lasting impact on the community.
