    Virginia Barbour Biography
    Virginia Barbour is a professor at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia, and the Director of the Australasian Open Access Strategy Group. She is best known for being one of the founding editors of PLOS Medicine and her role in championing the open access movement. Barbour pursued a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree and a Master of Arts degree at the University of Cambridge. She later earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree in molecular medicine at the University of Oxford. Prior to her current positions, Barbour served as an executive editor at The Lancet from 1994 to 2004. She has also held various editorial and directorial roles at PLOS Medicine and Biology.
