Wayne Wells Biography
Wayne Turner Wells, born on September 29, 1946, is an American wrestler and Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling. Hailing from Abilene, Texas and raised in Oklahoma, Wells achieved great success in his wrestling career. He was a three-time Big Eight champion and a three-time All-American during his time at the University of Oklahoma. Wells won the NCAA national championship as a senior and placed fourth at the 1968 Olympic Games. He continued to excel, winning the silver medal at the 1969 World Championships and the gold at the 1970 World Championships. Wells also claimed two national freestyle titles and a second-place finish in the Pan American Games. In recognition of his achievements, Wells was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 1982.
