In addition to his stage work, he has also performed voice-over work. Knightley has made TV appearances in shows such as The Bill, A Touch of Frost, and Midsomer Murders. He is known for his role in the BBC drama A Short Stay in Switzerland, which aired in 2009. Knightley is also recognized for his appearance on the British series Rosemary & Thyme. He is the father of composer Caleb Knightley and Academy Award-nominated actress Keira Knightley.
