Will Roberts

Will Roberts (21 December 1907 – 11 March 2000) was a Welsh expressionist painter. Born in Ruabon, Denbighshire, Roberts showed talent for drawing at an early age. He studied at Swansea Art School under William Grant Murray for four years starting from 1928. In 1945, he met Polish artist Josef Herman, who had a significant influence on his work. Roberts drew inspiration from his local community, portraying industrial workers, farmers, and scenes of family life. He gained recognition for his striking Welsh landscapes and is considered one of Wales's modern masters. In 1962, Roberts was awarded the Byng-Stamper Prize for his landscape painting.
