Yaa Gyasi

Yaa Gyasi is a Ghanaian-American novelist born in 1989. She gained recognition for her debut novel Homegoing, which was published in 2016 and received several awards including the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Award, the PEN/Hemingway Award, the National Book Foundation's '5 under 35' honors, and the American Book Award. In 2020, she was honored with the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Literature. Gyasi was born in Mampong, Ghana, and moved to the United States in 1991. She was raised in Huntsville, Alabama, where she developed a passion for reading and writing. Gyasi's work explores themes of history, identity, and the African diaspora.
