Yassmin Alers

Yassmin Alers is an American film and stage actress. She was born in New York City's Spanish Harlem and grew up in a close-knit family with five children. Alers has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She gained recognition as the dance captain and understudy in the original Broadway cast of Jonathan Larson's RENT. She has also appeared in other Broadway productions such as Paul Simon's The Capeman and the revival of The Rocky Horror Show. Alers has been part of the International Tour of The Who's Tommy and the National Tour of RENT. Her recent credits include performances on Broadway with On Your Feet and at GEVA Theater Center in Rochester with In The Heights, where she portrayed the role of Abuela Claudia. Alers has also appeared in films such as West Side Story (2021), The American Mall (2008) (TV), Chain Link (2008), Across the Universe (2007), and The Ten Commandments: The Musical (2006).
